Lindsay Lohan’s and others’ flings with lesbian girls are nothing to scoff at. If lesbian inclination among starlets has become a sort of norm that it’s akin to dying your hair in blonde, well, we have come a really long way, darling. In recent New York Magazine's Daily Intel blog Jessica Coen has reported about the different lesbian toe dips indulged in by present-day young starlets. Coen considers Katy Perry, whose song “I Kissed A Girl” has got us woman-crushing, the are-they-or-aren’t-they heiresses Casey Johnson and Courtenay Semel, and most famous, Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, to be ‘faux lesbian girls’ whose lesbian flings seem more like a performance for attention and have no deal with actual sexuality. She is going to say that woman-woman-loving is a tired and easy career step. What Coen seems not to notice that a publicist coming out against lesbian girls with albums, films or themselves to promote isn’t much original way to pay attention. In addition, the argument that LiLo’s lesbian fling is missing ‘authenticity’ because she seems less like a burgeoning lesbian and more like a confused young lady is just funny. There is nothing new about falling in love with your best friend, even a same-gender friend. Bisexual people have been doing it for years, and we already know that girls’ sexuality isn’t static. And even in case if Lindsay isn’t lesbian for life, Jessica Coen should know better than to chastise somebody for trying something, especially somebody in the eyes of society. As for the other girls, there may be a little of limelight posturing, but there is nothing new about that. In case lesbian inclination has become so normal that, as Coen supposes, it’s akin to dying your hair in blonde, well, we have come a really long way, darling.
